It’s a HUGE day for Sam and Dean Winchester fans, with the launch of TWO new Supernatural series bringing the brothers back in an ambitious way, to say the least. While the two series are separate, they’re best enjoyed together, and we have all the details you need to know to dive right in and enjoy what promises to be an epic new era of the franchise.
October 7, 2026, marks the launch of Dynamite’s Supernatural: Sam Winchester and Supernatural: Dean Winchester ongoing series. These two series follow Sam and Dean as they go their separate ways after the events of last month’s Supernatural Special: Wayward. As a result, the series follows the brothers as they continue the family business of monster hunting, but instead of working together, they’ll go it alone, marking a major change to the duo’s typical status quo.
The fact that the Supernatural franchise, in partnership with Dynamite, is putting out two new series while separating the brothers is a bold move, and fan reactions are still pending. However, with Paulina Ganucheau and Kendall Goode behind Sam Winchester, and Chuck Brown and Rapha Lobosco behind the Dean Winchester series, if anyone can pull this off, it’s these A-class creatives.
Below, we’ll dive into the best reading order, where these series fall within official continuity, and more, all while avoiding spoilers.
Supernatural’s New Era Is Here, Best Way To Enjoy It & Everything You Need To Know
Main Cover by Marguerite Sauvage for Supernatural: Dean Winchester #1 (2026)
Supernatural: Sam Winchester #1 and Supernatural: Dean Winchester #1 are both 32 pages and cost $4.99 each. However, before diving into these issues, we highly recommend reading Supernatural Special: Wayward #1 first. This 48-page one-shot special serves as the true launch of this new era of the franchise, doing the heavy lifting in setting up the premise for Sam and Dean's solo titles and adventures.
Wayward #1 is available for $5.99 and takes readers along on another Winchester hunt, but things take a turn for the worse when Sam begins receiving calls and messages warning him that if he doesn't abandon Dean within the next two days, Dean will die. Dean laughs off the threat, but Sam doesn't, and eventually, unforeseen danger pushes him to abandon Dean in a misguided attempt to save his brother's life.
This incident sets up the premise for the two solo Winchester series, and for the best reading experience, fans should definitely check it out. However, if you want to skip straight to the two Winchester solo titles, the above is all you need to know about why the brothers are no longer together.
While Dynamite hasn't released a publisher-mandated reading order between the Sam Winchester and Dean Winchester series, we recommend reading Sam Winchester first, then jumping into Dean Winchester. Again, this isn't strictly necessary, but it makes for a more enjoyable reading experience.
For Supernatural fans venturing into the comics for the first time, it's important to note that these stories are set within the CW show's established continuity. While the exact timeframe of these issues has yet to be revealed, they take place during the TV show's run, not after the Season 15 finale.
Since Bobby Singer is alive and well, and the brothers haven't met Castiel yet, these stories likely fall somewhere between two of the show's earlier seasons. More will likely be revealed with future releases, but based on these two issues, this is a new era of Supernatural that feels both like a return to the Golden Age and an opportunity to offer fans something supernaturally fresh.
Supernatural: Sam Winchester #1 and Supernatural: Dean Winchester #1 from DYNAMITE are now available to read!
