Hadi says he will prove US toppling claim in court

MARANG: Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang said he would prove in court his claim that the United States (US) offered cooperation to topple the Barisan Nasional (BN) government in 2014.

"It is up to the Attorney-General's Chambers to decide on the prosecution process.

"So far, after the process of giving my statement was completed, we have not received any updates from the Attorney-General's Chambers," he said.

Hadi said this when met after delivering his lecture at Rusila Mosque here today.

Last Wednesday, Pas president's political secretary Mohd Syahir Che Sulaiman was reported as saying that Hadi had given his statement to the police over the allegation that the US had offered cooperation to topple the BN government in 2014.

Media reports had previously said Hadi, in his winding-up speech at the 72nd Pas Annual Muktamar on Sept 5, claimed that several PAS leaders had been invited to a meeting with the US Embassy during then-US President Barack Obama's visit to Malaysia in 2014, where the foreign side allegedly offered assistance to topple the government at the time.

However, the US Embassy denied Hadi's claim that its representatives had offered assistance to Pas to topple the BN government.

David H Gamble Jr, who heads the US Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, said the US had never sought to determine Malaysia's political leadership.

Hadi, who is also Marang member of Parliament, said the statement-taking process was conducted at the Pas headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.

"The process took less than an hour and our answer was that we would submit the evidence in court.

"We will submit the evidence to the court, but so far there has been no information on the prosecution process," he said.
