EXCLUSIVE: Following her Stranger Things run, Winona Ryder is heading back to Netflix for a brand new adventure.
Since 2022, a whole new generation has gotten to explore the Addams family through Netflix, with Jenna Ortega bringing Wednesday to life through the beloved supernatural adventure. While viewers are eagerly waiting for the show to come back, the creators behind the hit series are planning an exciting third season.
In an exclusive interview to celebrate Smallville's 25th anniversary with ScreenRant's Andy Behbakht, showrunners Al Gough and Miles Millar shared some exciting updates for Wednesday season 3, as the Netflix series is staging Ortega and Ryder's big reunion after working together on Tim Burton's Beetlejuice, which the writing duo co-wrote. While Gough shared with a laugh that "I can't" share too much about Tabitha, Millar assured that viewers will definitely see them together throughout the season.
Millar stated that "she's obviously on screen with Jenna. Yeah. So she's part of the world, but that's all we can say." He also added the excitement of bringing so many players from Burton's work together in their take on the Addams mythology, as Eva Green will be playing Ophelia in Wednesday season 3, saying, "It was great to get her and to see the icons of Tim's career together in the same project - that was exciting for us to see Eva Green and Jenna and Winona. It was just kind of amazing."
With Wednesday expanding the larger Addams family, the creative duo expressed the excitement of not only getting to flesh out the continuity, but also put their spin on some of the iconic characters, and how their history with running Smallville helped, after exploring Clark Kent's origin story before he became Superman. Gough began with saying, "It's great. And unlike Smallville or Superman, there wasn't a lot of lore with the Addams family. You have the movies, and you've got the television show, and you have the Charles Addams panels where they didn't even have names. So it's been a lot of fun to build out the Addams family and delve into this world and create the world as we dive into it."
Millar had a similar experience, as he added that "it's been great. It's different, but it's the same in terms of looking at and just giving these characters and their backstories and the history of the family era our own spin." As he looked to "our legacy from Smallville and being able to have that creativity and freedom to do that," the co-showrunner feels that "it's been even more so on Wednesday, because as Al said, there wasn't much lore to go from, so we can make it up. We create our own map."

Rearrange the movies into the correct US release order.
While an exact premiere date has not been set yet, the world will see the Wednesday characters next year, as Netflix is eyeing season 3 to arrive sometime in 2027. As filming wrapped back in September, post-production is currently underway on the new episodes. Even though plot details are being kept heavily under wraps, Ortega's titular protagonist is heading to Paris.
As Wednesday is on the quest to find Enid, that may be why she is heading to France, but time will tell if that is where the missing werewolf is, following the events of the season 2 finale in 2025. Hopefully, more clues on season 3 will start to emerge before 2026 is over.
