BATU PAHAT: A couple were among three people arrested during an operation by the General Operations Force (GOF) that led to the seizure of 5.2kg of methamphetamine here and in Muar two days ago.

The three suspects, aged between their 20s and 40s, were detained in an operation targeting suspected drug trafficking and smuggling activities at 8.35pm.

GOF Battalion 6 commanding officer Superintendent Shohaiami Ismail said the operation, carried out by the battalion intelligence branch in Muar, also led to the seizure of five plastic packets containing the drugs.

"In addition, two vehicles believed to have been used in the illicit activity — a Toyota Vios and a Honda Civic FD — were seized.

"The total value of the seizure is estimated at RM434,400," he said in a statement.

He said the operation was conducted at an open parking lot next to a supermarket in Batu Pahat, as well as in Kampung Sarang Buaya Laut, Muar.

"All suspects, along with the seized items, were handed over to the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department of the Batu Pahat police headquarters for further investigation.

"The case is being investigated under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and relevant provisions of the Dangerous Drugs (Forfeiture of Property) Act 1988," he said.

Shohaiami said the successful bust was the result of continuous efforts by the police, particularly the GOF, in curbing drug trafficking and smuggling activities that threaten public safety and order.

He urged the public to channel information to the police regarding drug distribution or other unlawful activities to assist law enforcement and crime prevention efforts.
