Timothy Olyphant is one of the many stars in this hit horror franchise sequel, and the movie is now a streaming sensation years later, with the factor that it has one of the best casts in the genre likely playing a role. Olyphant has been on a streak of hits over the past couple of years. Olyphant's list of movies and TV shows includes a few franchises, such as his role as Kirsh in Alien: Earth, the sci-fi series that continued Ridley Scott's iconic movie franchise, and as the main villain of Netflix's Terminator Zero, aka the title Terminator.
After also finding streaming success with the sports series Stick, which will return for season 2, and Lucky, Apple TV's new 2026 thriller series, Olyphant is set to return to a major franchise. That would be Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which did not start with franchise plans. However, Tarantino would come to pen a sequel focused on Brad Pitt's Cliff Booth, Netflix's upcoming The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth, which is directed by David Fincher and will see Olyphant reprise his role of James Stacy. Before that, another Olyphant franchise entry, Scream 2, has just resurged on streaming amid the Halloween season.
Olyphant's Scream 2 Is Slashing Its Way Up Streaming Charts
At the time of writing, Scream 2 stands as the 7th most-watched movie on Lionsgate+ (via the Amazon Channels) in Canada, according to data from FlixPatrol. It is not the only movie in the iconic Scream franchise to find new life on the streaming service years later. Scream 2 is joined by the original film in the horror franchise, 1996's Scream, on the Lionsgate+ chart. That said, Scream ranks higher right now, standing at 2nd, only losing to another major slasher franchise, with 2007's Halloween leading Lionsgate+ in Canada. Scout Taylor-Compton plays Laurie Strode in that film.
As for Scream 2, the horror movie saw Olyphant give life to Mickey Altieri, one of the most important characters in the slasher. The actor was joined by a star-studded cast for the franchise, including names like Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, David Arquette, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Liev Schreiber, Luke Wilson, and many more. Scream 2 was originally released in theaters on December 12, 1997. The horror movie had a reported budget of $24 million and racked up a massive $172.3 million worldwide. According to JustWatch, Scream 2 is streaming on Hulu, Paramount Plus, Peacock, and more in the United States.
What's The Latest On The Scream Franchise's Future?
The Scream franchise continued to be a major box office draw well beyond Olyphant's movie. Its most recent chapter was 2026's Scream 7, which once again featured franchise stars like Campbell, Arquette, Cox, Matthew Lillard, and more. Among the young stars in the movie's cast were Mckenna Grace, Asa Germann, Michelle Randolph, and more. Scream 7 grossed $213.8 million worldwide. Scream 8 is currently in development at Paramount and Spyglass, with Lilla and Nora Zuckerman reportedly writing the screenplay for the next slasher in the hit franchise. Among their credits are Poker Face, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and more. Until then, Olyphant's Scream 2 trends.
