Giannis Antetokounmpo Says "I Didn’t Come Here for This" As Miami Heat Fall To 0-3

Giannis Antetokounmpo came to Miami to win a title, and three games in, the Heat haven't won anything at all. After Saturday night's loss in Charlotte, the two-time MVP didn't hide his frustration, and his words were blunt. The Heat were supposed to turn a corner with him. Instead, they are off to a start the franchise hasn't seen in almost 20 years, and Giannis says something has to change.
Giannis Is Frustrated After the Heat's Worst Start in Nearly 20 Years
Giannis Antetokounmpo did not hold back after Saturday's loss in Charlotte. “I didn't come here for this sh*t. We need to figure this out,” Antetokounmpo said.
It was a rough night for him. Miami lost 115-110 to the Hornets, and Giannis finished with 14 points on 4-of-11 shooting. He fouled out with 1:57 left and the game still close. That came after 35 points in the opener and 36 in the loss to Detroit, so the drop was easy to see.
Coach Erik Spoelstra didn't pile on. He pointed to how physically hard it is for Giannis to play every night and said the team has to keep its focus for all 48 minutes. “We just have to find a way,” he said.
The Heat had a chance. They trailed 96-75 going into the fourth quarter, then ripped off a run to tie it at 100-100. But a four-point play by Grayson Allen put Charlotte back in front, and the Heat never recovered. Davion Mitchell had 22 points and 10 assists, and Bam Adebayo added 20.
From blockbuster trade to 0-3
Not long ago, this looked like a dream fit. Miami landed Giannis from the Bucks in a trade that became official on July 6. Bobby Portis came along, and Milwaukee got Tyler Herro, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kel'el Ware and Kasparas Jakucionis, plus a first-round pick swap, more draft picks and the No. 13 pick in this year's draft.
He's 31, and he gave the Bucks 13 seasons and a title. Many people expect Miami to give him a big extension later this year. Nobody expected this start.
It's the first 0-3 start of Giannis's career and the first for the Heat since 2007-08, when they went 15-67. It's also the first 0-3 start in Spoelstra's 19 years as coach. To make it worse, the Hornets were missing Kon Knueppel and Coby White, and they had lost by 47 points the night before.
The schedule won't help. Miami hosts Dallas on Monday, then plays six of its next seven games on the road, starting Wednesday in Atlanta.
