Mercy Masika Breaks Silence on Criticism Over Upcoming Marriage Masterclass

Translate

Gospel singer Rev. Mercy Masika Muguro has appeared to defend her upcoming marriage masterclass after facing criticism from social media users who questioned the need to teach women how to become wives.

Masika recently announced a seven-session programme titled Becoming a Wife Masterclass – A Guide to Biblical Marriage, scheduled to run from November 21 to December 12, 2026.

The announcement sparked mixed reactions, with supporters welcoming the initiative while critics argued that teaching women how to become wives was outdated and unnecessarily focused on women’s responsibilities in marriage.

Rather than issue a lengthy statement, Masika appeared to respond indirectly by sharing a post from Instagram user @jasminekariuki_ on her Stories, endorsing a message defending the programme.

How Masika Responded to Critics

The reshared post challenged those questioning why women would want to learn about becoming wives, arguing that marriage-focused teachings should remain available to those who find value in them.

“I have chosen violence and probably being cancelled by my 2 followers but ey.. I have so much to say about the reactions to this. But my question is, why does the desire for someone to become a wife and or to teach and be taught to become a wife bother y’all that much?? No.. Really. Why? Does the institution of marriage represent so much negativity to us that we feel this is some sort of oppression or time wastage?

“Let the women who want to be wives, be wives. Let them honor, love and submit to their husbands. Let them be taught to do so. It may not be your cup of tea, the masterclass may not be for you, but it is what someone else needs. eiiy jamenii! Let @mercymasikamuguro teach what she knows!”

By sharing the post, Masika appeared to align herself with the argument that women should be free to seek marriage guidance based on their personal choices and religious beliefs, even when others disagree with the approach.

She has not issued a detailed public statement addressing the criticism.

Supporters Defend the Masterclass

Since the programme was announced, supporters have argued that participation is voluntary and that the masterclass is intended for women seeking guidance on marriage through a Christian perspective.

They maintain that a programme centred on biblical teachings about being a wife does not mean every woman must embrace the same approach to relationships.

Critics, however, have questioned why similar attention is not given to teaching men how to become better husbands, arguing that marriage involves shared responsibilities and requires both partners to contribute to a healthy relationship.

The debate has consequently extended beyond Masika’s programme to broader questions about gender roles, submission and how religious teachings on marriage should be presented in modern society.

Mercy Masika’s Experience With Marriage

Masika is married to Pastor David Muguro, and she has previously spoken about the challenges she encountered during the early years of their marriage.

The singer has discussed learning to navigate household responsibilities, understanding submission and seeking mentorship when difficulties threatened their relationship.

Her experiences have informed her public discussions about marriage and the importance of preparation, particularly within a Christian context.

The Becoming a Wife Masterclass is scheduled to feature seven sessions between November 21 and December 12, 2026. Lady Bishop Kathy Kiuna is among the guest speakers announced so far.
