Everything We Learned From Drake’s ‘FOMO’ Short Film

When Drake announced plans for FOMO, plenty of theories were floated on social media by rap fans about what to expect. The 6 God’s “not so short film” arrived on Tuesday night (Sept. 15), just four months after his May trifecta of albums.

Lasting just over an hour, Fear of Missing Out is similar to Drizzy’s ICEMAN livestream, which essentially saw him turn portions of the short film into a visual album for tracks from his HABIBTI and MAID OF HONOUR albums.

But that wasn’t it, as Drake completed side missions throughout the clip, which featured appearances from Sexyy Red; Stunna Sandy; his mother, Sandra Graham; NBA star Kevin Durant; model Winnie Harlow; Lena the Plug; his “goth baddie” and more.

He couldn’t put together an event like FOMO without some new music, which saw him debut unreleased collaborations with Don Toliver, PartyNextDoor and Yeat.

In all, there are nine new tracks sprinkled throughout the short film, including his anticipated interpolation of Ella Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas” smash.

Following a premiere of FOMO in Toronto, Drake revealed that he’s set to hit the road again in 2027 for a world tour, which will include his first North American trek since 2023.

“Obviously, tour is coming and there’s other things on the horizon, some big shows,” he said. “We’ll be out 2027 to see everybody again across the world… We’ll see you on tour soon.”

Even after feeding fans three albums, The Boy is still clearly inspired creatively in the studio and has continued working on new ideas, but this feels like more of a care package he wanted to get out, rather than kicking off his next era.

Unfortunately, Drake made FOMO private on his YouTube page after the short film’s debut. Here’s everything we learned from Drake’s short film.

• New Don Toliver x Drake Is Here & It’s a Banger

  Drake and Don have been circling each other for months and dropping hints about a potential collab on social media. That seemed to be crystallized when Drizzy popped out at Don’s OCTANE World Tour stop in Toronto in August to perform ICEMAN cuts for the first time in an arena setting. The colossal collab, tentatively titled “Cold Shoulder,” needs an official release ASAP.

• Drake & Don Toliver Are ‘Choosin’ Texas’

  Drake’s having fun again and it’s showing. The 6 God hasn’t been shy about being an Ella Fella, which saw Drizzy attend an Ella Langley concert earlier in September. After teasing a remix of Langley’s 22-week No. 1 Hot 100 hit “Choosin’ Texas,” the full version was premiered during FOMO. The OVO boss shrewdly interpolates Langley’s country anthem on the hook of his R&B-leaning track, which invites Don Toliver into the fold, taking the woozy song to another level. Drake has made a habit of proving time and time again that he can pull on something from another artist and creatively make it his own.

• World Tour 2027

  Drake is back outside. Drizzy confirmed in an interview at a FOMO screening that he’s hitting the road for a world tour in 2027. It’s still unclear if he’ll be taking over stadiums or making an arena run. The 6 God’s last U.S. trek was in 2023 with It’s All a Blur Tour.

  Within the first minute of FOMO, Drizzy is shown moving around his Toronto estate while rocking a Brat merch T-shirt from Charli xcx’s 2024 blockbuster album.

  Drake and Yeat have proven to be dynamic collaborators, and they made magic once again with “Miss My Dawgs.” Introduced by cinematic strings, the duo salute the day one homies that stardom has drifted them away from in life.

  “Classic” landed as a standout on Drake’s HABIBTI album, and the FOMO visual delivers an extended slowed-down outro for the track.

• Ending Credits Welcome Back Mob Boss Drake

  Mob boss Drake is back. On an unreleased cut played during the final credits, he takes aim at his detractors and appears to take a possible shot at Kendrick Lamar with some shrewd wordplay. “They tell me that my circle getting small huh/ But b—h we from the Dot, you can’t compare to us/ F–k all that circle s–t, I’m squaring up,” he raps.

• Kevin Durant Is an OVO Loyalist

  NBA star Kevin Durant is as loyal as they come in his friendship with Drake. KD popped up for an appearance in the livestream while rocking an icy OVO owl chain.

• Drake Appears to Still Have 2Pac’s Ring

  Drake purchased 2Pac’s crown ring at a 2023 Sotheby’s auction for $1 million, and he appeared to flex it on the FOMO stream. “You know whose ring that is,” he rhetorically asked.

• No Bark, All Bite: A Reunion With Drake’s ‘Goth Baddie’

  Drake reunited with his “goth baddie,” Pinkchyu, who was the winner of his 20-versus-one speed-dating competition. They went on a hilarious shopping “date” to Hot Topic and rented out Medieval Times, which doubled as the visual for “Princess.”

• Drake Is Iron Man

  Drake is the real Tony Stark. He threw on an authentic Iron Man suit while walking through the Toronto CNE fair with Loe Shimmy for the “I’m Spent” visual. Footage initially emerged of Drake in the superhero suit earlier in September.

• More Unreleased Music Arrives With ‘I Know It’s True’

  Drake picks up the pace while barring up over sparse, stripped-down production. “Lost so many angels, only heaven knows what’s next,” he raps. The unreleased tracks played are quality cuts and not just throwaways that didn’t make the cut from his May trifecta.

• Lena the Plug Reunites With Drake

  Fresh off appearing in Drake’s 20 versus one dating competition, adult film star Lena the Plug returns for a FOMO cameo, which finds her as the girl next door who comes over to take a dip in Drake’s state-of-the-art pool.

• Winnie Harlow Stars in ‘New Bestie’

  Model Winnie Harlow and her sister make an appearance in FOMO, starring in the visual for “True Bestie” sans Drake.

• Sandy Graham Is Drake’s ‘True Bestie’

  Sandy Graham enjoys a girls’ night with two of her best friends and then the 6 God joins the trio for dinner, while the scene turns into a visual for “True Bestie.” Drake’s mother even showed off a new “ICEMOM” tattoo on his wrist.

• R&B Drake Returns With New Tunes

  It wouldn’t be a Drizzy live stream without some new music. The 6 God teased a woozy track welcoming the return of R&B Drake, fresh off a heartbreak. “Every time somebody ties me down, somehow I become undone for real,” he sings. This could’ve been a fit on MAID OF HONOUR, or teases the road ahead in his next era.

• Stunna Sandy Flies Air Drake

  Stunna Sandy hopped on Air Drake to join the 6 God for a tropical vacation. Oceanside boozing, twerking and boat rides fill the scene with Sandy rocking an OVO chain as their HABIBTI collaboration “Outside Tweaking” plays. This mirrors the visual album Drake essentially made with the ICEMAN stream in May ahead of the album landing on streaming services hours later.

• Sexyy Red Makes an Appearance

  Find someone who supports you as much as Sexyy Red loves Drake. She makes the first guest appearance in FOMO, which could double as a visual for their “Cheetah Print” collaboration on MAID OF HONOUR.

• Drake Is Testing the Country Waters

  Drake is one to always embrace his influences, and he’s been on a country kick in recent months. HABIBTI opener “Rusty Intro” leaned into the genre and Drizzy built on that with another unreleased FOMO cut, which finds the 6 God ruminating about the vices leaving a dent in his life over an electric guitar.

• Drizzy & PartyNextDoor Reunite

  About a year and a half after releasing their $ome $exy $ongs 4 U collab album, OVO running mates Drake and PartyNextDoor reunite for an intoxicating track from the vault, which was premiered during FOMO.

• The Good Old Days

  Drake headed to legendary locations from throughout his career during the visual for “Miss My Dawgs” with Yeat. Scenes included shots from the music videos for “God’s Plan,” “What’s Next,” “Hotline Bling,” “Started From the Bottom,” “Work,” “Headlines” and “Toosie Slide” as well as the Take Care album cover restaurant.

• ‘Janice STFU’ Gets the Remix Treatment

  Drizzy called on OnlyHeaven to inject some New Orleans bounce into a remix of his Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 hit “Janice STFU.”
