Predawn robbery at Miri mini market leaves worker with injuries, police nab three Malaysian suspects

MIRI, Aug 23 — A quiet early morning at a Tudan mini-market turned violent when three men allegedly broke into the premises, attacked an employee and fled with cash and other items.

The woman was working at the shop at about 5.30am on August 21 when the men forced their way in and assaulted her, Harian Metro reported today.

“The victim suffered injuries to her hand and shoulder before receiving treatment at Miri Hospital,” Miri district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah was quoted as saying.

The robbers then made off with cash and several belongings belonging to the worker and the premises.

Police later arrested three Malaysian men aged between 28 and 39, acting on information received and conducting follow-up investigations.

The Miri District Criminal Investigation Division also seized several items believed to be connected to the case, including mobile phones, clothing and a motorcycle.

Mohd Farhan said the case was being investigated under Sections 395 and 397 of the Penal Code for gang robbery with a dangerous weapon.

Those convicted can face up to 20 years’ imprisonment and whipping.

He said investigations were continuing and police would take stern action against those involved.

Members of the public with information on the robbery have been urged to come forward to assist the investigation.
