Bali Basarnas searches for missing Russian near Tanjung Mebulu

Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA) - The Bali Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) deployed seven personnel to search for a Russian man reported missing near cliffs in Tanjung Mebulu, Badung District.

"The team will search the suspected last known location, including the cliffs and coast around Tanjung Mebulu and Karang Boma," Bali Basarnas Chief I Nyoman Sidakarya said.

In a statement on Saturday, Sidakarya said the team was deployed after receiving a report about a missing Russian national identified as G. Artem, 40.

According to the man's friend, he had been unreachable since Wednesday, Sept. 23, while Sidakarya received the alert from the central Basarnas Command Center at 5:40 a.m. local time on Saturday, Sept. 26.

The man was last believed to have been seen near cliffs in Pecatu Village.

With limited information and no eyewitnesses, standby personnel coordinated with South Kuta Police and local military officers.

Residents also reported finding an abandoned motorcycle and helmet near Karang Boma cliffs, close to the search area.

"The motorcycle was secured by police because its owner was unknown. The vehicle and helmet found in the area provided an initial clue for the search," Sidakarya said.

As of Saturday afternoon, personnel had found no further signs of the missing man.

"The SAR team continues to coordinate with relevant agencies to determine the search area and maximize efforts based on available information and clues," he added.
