Coronation Street star 'nearly cut her finger off' filming Celebrity MasterChef

Former Coronation Street star Sue Cleaver suffered a gruesome injury during her time on Celebrity MasterChef, it has been revealed.

The 62-year-old actress, who played Eileen Grimshaw on the ITV soap between 2000 and 2025, will appear in the Tuesday, 1 September, episode of the BBC cooking competition.

Competing against the likes of Una Healy and Melvin Odoom, it seems Sue may have been at a disadvantage whilst filming the scenes.

As she prepared a salad, the soap star accidentally sliced through her right index finger as she chopped up vegetables using a Japanese knife that her son bought her to use on the show.

Fans tuning in next month will hear Sue say: "“Oh, plaster already. I’ve cut myself. It didn’t take long."

She then admits: “I nearly cut my finger off, and it’s only day one. I’m panicking a bit."

According to The Sun, Celebrity MasterChef judge and Italian chef Giorgio Locatelli tells her: “That’s a Japanese knife. It’s a very sharp one.”

Of course, on-site medics were on hand to help with her injury, and once she was patched up, Sue was able to continue with the competition.

This comes after Celebrity MasterChef fans were left fuming after this year's first elimination on August 18.

Jay McGuinness was sent home following a series of kitchen mishaps, but viewers felt his fate was unjustified, with many suggesting that another star should have been sent home.

The Wanted singer was the first contestant to exit after suffering two disasters. During the first challenge, Jay served up a cheesecake that wouldn't come out of its tin, prompting judge Giorgio to recommend using more butter to perfect his dish.

Later on, things only got worse for Jay after he cooked a mushroom pie, which Giorgio, Grace Dent and guest judge Paddy McGuinness predicted could be a recipe for disaster if he didn't get the timing right.

While Grace and Paddy tried to remain reassuring, Giorgio was more critical of Jay's work as he lamented that the pastry had "cracked a lot," adding: "It has definitely got a problem. It's too crumbly and is almost sandy. You've added too much fat into the mixture."

It was enough for Jay to be eliminated from the first heat, as the singer was later told that he had failed to make it through to the quarter-final.
