Translate

John C. Reilly will join the international competition jury at the 62nd Chicago International Film Festival, which runs Oct. 14-25.

The actor, whose credits include Hard Eight, Magnolia, The Lobster and The Sisters Brothers, will lead a five-person panel awarding the Gold Hugo for best film and Silver Hugos recognizing achievements including directing, acting, cinematography and screenwriting.

Joining Reilly are Italian writer-director Carolina Cavalli, whose The Kidnapping of Arabella screened at last year’s festival; Return to Seoul filmmaker Davy Chou; Golden Bear-winning Hungarian director Ildikó Enyedi, whose most recent film is Silent Friend; and German filmmaker Henk Handloegten, a Babylon Berlin showrunner and screenwriter of this year’s festival selection Fatherland.

The festival also announced juries for its New Directors, Documentary, OutLook, Chicago Award and short film competitions. Filmmaker Karla Badillo, journalist Marya E. Gates and programmer Nicky Ni will judge the New Directors competition, which recognizes first and second features. The documentary jury comprises filmmakers Alina Marazzi, Curtis Miller, Bruno Santamaría Razo and Katy Scoggin.

The OutLook jury, awarding the Q-Hugo for LGBTQ+ cinema, includes Music Box Films marketing and publicity head Elizabeth Arnott, journalist and historian Annie Howard and filmmaker Stephen Winter. Winter’s debut feature, Chocolate Babies, will receive a 30th anniversary retrospective screening during the festival.

The festival will also host its fourth annual International Contenders Panel on Oct. 17, bringing together filmmakers behind this year’s international feature Oscar submissions for a conversation moderated by The Hollywood Reporter senior writer Seth Abramovitch.

Presented by the nonprofit Cinema/Chicago, the festival will take place at theaters and venues across the city, with programming spanning international and independent cinema.
