Indonesia's Rp5M e-motorcycle incentive awaits finance regulation

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said on Monday that a planned Rp5 million (around US$280) incentive for electric motorcycles is awaiting the issuance of a Finance Ministry regulation before it can be implemented.

Agus said the Industry Ministry was ready to implement the program but could not proceed until the regulation, known as a Finance Ministry Regulation (PMK), was issued.

“We are waiting for the PMK,” Agus told reporters at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Monday.

He said the timing of the program depended entirely on the Finance Ministry and that he could not set a target for its implementation. However, Agus said his ministry was technically ready.

“We are ready. The Ministry of Industry, as the technical ministry, is ready. We are just waiting for the PMK. Once the PMK is issued, we will make the necessary adjustments,” he said.

Agus added that the government was still discussing which electric motorcycle brands would be eligible for the incentive, with the Industry Ministry, state investment agency Danantara Indonesia, and the Finance Ministry involved in the discussions.

Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa proposed in April that the incentive program be introduced this year. It is planned to be rolled out in stages, with the initial phase targeting around 6 million motorcycles.

Purbaya said the program was still under review and would be discussed further with Agus and Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto.

The initial proposal calls for a subsidy of around Rp5 million per unit, although the amount could still change as the policy is finalized.
