MANILA, Philippines – Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial enters its ninth week on Tuesday, with the House prosecution panel sets to present Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Col. Manaros Boransing II as a witness on the use of confidential funds by the Department of Education (DepEd).

The prosecution said Boransing will testify on whether the AFP received financial assistance or monetary rewards from DepEd for its annual Youth Leadership Summit (YLS) during Duterte’s tenure as education secretary. The testimony comes after the Commission on Audit questioned DepEd’s use of P112.5 million in confidential funds in 2023, prompting the agency to submit certifications from military officers to justify its expenditures. /dp
