Barantin export clinic helps Palu MSMEs navigate export markets

The Indonesian Quarantine Agency (Barantin) has established an export clinic in Palu, Central Sulawesi, to help micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) scale up their businesses and expand into international markets.

"Together with the Ministry of MSMEs, the Palu municipal government, and the Central Sulawesi provincial government, we are working to strengthen business competitiveness through guidance and education, with the aim of improving product quality," Barantin Head Abdul Kadir Karding said.

He made the statement during an event marking Palu's 48th anniversary in the provincial capital on Sunday.

Karding noted that Central Sulawesi is home to a number of promising export commodities, including swallow's nests, fishery products, cocoa, and cloves.

To tap into that potential, he added, local MSMEs must address challenges related to product quality and limited awareness of the requirements and standards in export markets.

"With that in mind, it is important to pursue standardization to align our standards with those of destination countries," the Barantin chief added.

Head of the Central Sulawesi Quarantine Center Alfian said the export clinic is aimed at helping local MSMEs better understand export procedures.

"The export clinic serves as a consultation and guidance center for business players, especially MSMEs, helping them proceed through quarantine requirements, commodity inspection procedures, certification requirements, and the regulations of destination countries," he said.

Alfian stressed that MSMEs require government support to meet standards related to quality, safety, and traceability, rather than focusing solely on developing commercially viable products.

He also underscored the export clinic as part of efforts to strengthen Barantin's role in expanding Indonesia's international trade.
