A cemetery in Dagupan City remains flooded from the past Southwest Monsoon or Habagat season, with only a few days left before Undas.
In a "24 Oras" report from Tina Panganiban-Perez, floodwaters at Bonuan Boquig Cemetery remained calf-deep.
“Noong Habagat, yung isang buwan mahigit na ulan. Pero bumaba na, dati yung tubig mataas yung level niyan,” said caretaker Abel Velasco. (During the Southwest Monsoon, when the rain lasted for a month. But it has come down; the water level used to be there.)
Those who wanted to visit the dead had to wear boots to prevent any illness.
A large part of the cemetery still needed to be fixed, which the residents are rushing to do before the Undas season.
Other provinces are also rushing to fix up their tombs. Some are selling flowers, while others are making tombstones.
In Zamboanga City, bus drivers and conductors were randomly tested for drugs before they traveled for Undas — five of them tested positive.
Meanwhile, two others tested positive in a surprise drug test at a bus terminal in Tuguegarao, Cagayan.
Similar operations were also done in bus terminals in Baguio City and General Santos City. —Jean Mangaluz/LDF, GMA News
