Frank Lampard’s Coventry City secured its first top-flight win in 25 years as it defeated Nottingham Forest 1-0 on Saturday, September 20.

Lampard’s side endured a tough run of fixtures on return to the Premier League, including trips to Manchester City and Arsenal, but finally got its campaign off the mark at the City Ground.

Coventry’s last win in the Premier League was against Sunderland in April 2001 but a few games later it was relegated to end its 34-year stay in the top flight.

Jay Dasilva scored the winner midway through the second half, controlling a long ball from goalkeeper Carl Rushworth before finishing past Mats Selz.

Forest thought it had equalised close to the end of the match when Igor Jesus slotted home, but the Brazilian striker was deemed to have fouled Caleb Yirenkyi in the build-up to the goal.

“It ‌feels great, it feels amazing,” Lampard said. “The way the players worked for it. Having lost our first four games in different circumstances, it’s easy to feel negative, like where is the goal, where is the win coming from?

“The players deserve it. It’s really important for some of the players, for many of them it’s their ‌debut in the Premier League and they need to feel like they belong.”
