Yashasvi Jaiswal was run out in contentious fashion in the first innings of India’s ongoing Test against Sri Lanka in Galle.
In the 11th over of the match, Jaiswal’s opening partner KL Rahul knocked the ball back towards the bowler, debutant Keshara Nuwantha, and set off for a single. In attempting to field the ball, Nuwantha knocked Jaiswal off balance and on to his knees.
The collision caused confusion between the batters, and both ended up at the non-striker’s end as Prabath Jayasurya lobbed the ball to the keeper Niroshan Dickwella. Dickwella and captain Dhananjaya de Silva had a conversation about whether to appeal the dismissal or not before Dickwella removed the bails.
Replays showed that Rahul had grounded his bat first, leaving Jaiswal to be dismissed for 32 from 37 balls.
