Defending champion Aryna Sabalenka will take on third seed Jessica Pegula in the first women’s singles semifinal at the US Open 2026 on Friday, September 11. The blockbuster semifinal is scheduled to begin at 4:30 AM IST at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York.

Sabalenka leads Pegula 9-4 in their overall head-to-head record. However, their recent rivalry has been much closer, with Pegula winning two of their last three meetings. Their last encounter came in the Berlin Open semifinals in June, where Pegula fought back to beat Sabalenka 6-4, 6-7(4), 6-0.
The American also won their 2025 Wuhan semifinal, while Sabalenka prevailed in their most recent hard-court meeting before that, beating Pegula 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 at the 2025 WTA Finals in Riyadh.
The US Open has also been a favourable setting for Sabalenka in this rivalry. She beat Pegula in the 2025 semifinal and also defeated her in the 2024 US Open final.
Sabalenka vs Pegula: What is at stake?
Sabalenka is bidding for a third consecutive US Open title and has reached the semifinals in New York for a sixth straight year. She survived a major scare in the quarterfinals, edging Wimbledon champion Linda Noskova 7-6(1), 3-6, 7-6(10-7).
Pegula, meanwhile, has reached the US Open semifinals for a third consecutive year. She came from a set down to beat compatriot Emma Navarro 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 in the quarterfinals, securing her 50th win of the 2026 season.
It is the first time since Wimbledon 2009 that all four top seeds have reached the women’s singles semifinals at a Grand Slam.
