Two-time Olympic champion Michelle Gisin announced her retirement from Alpine skiing on Tuesday, nearly 11 months after suffering serious injuries in a downhill training crash in St. Moritz.

The 32-year-old Swiss skier sustained injuries to her neck, knee and wrist in December 2025 and underwent a lengthy recovery before deciding to end her competitive career.

Gisin won gold in Alpine combined at the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, finishing ahead of American Mikaela Shiffrin, and successfully defended her title at the 2022 Beijing Games. She also claimed bronze in the super-G event in Beijing.

“It has been a long process of reflection,” Gisin said in a statement. “But today I am very happy and look forward to everything the future holds.”

Gisin began competing on the World Cup circuit during the 2012-13 season and established herself as a versatile skier capable of competing across multiple disciplines.

She finished her career with two World Championship medals in combined, including silver at St. Moritz in 2017, along with one World Cup victory in slalom and 21 podium finishes.

Her older sister, Dominique Gisin, was also an Olympic champion, sharing the downhill gold with Slovenia’s Tina Maze at the 2014 Sochi Games.
