TUMPAT, Oct 31 — The public, particularly Muslims, have been urged to play a role in curbing the spread of deviant teachings that could undermine the sanctity of the faith by promptly reporting any suspicious activities to the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim) or the respective state Islamic religious authorities.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Zulkifli Hasan said the government had monitoring mechanisms in place through a committee tasked with coordinating the monitoring and control of teachings that could affect the sanctity of the faith.

He said the committee comprised Jakim, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), the Ministry of Education (MOE), the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) and other relevant ministries.

“We are therefore closely monitoring any teachings that could undermine one’s faith,” he told Bernama after officiating the Organic Chicken Farming Project in Teluk Renjuna here today.

He was responding to questions on several videos that went viral on social media recently, allegedly showing Muslims taking part in non-Muslim religious rituals, prompting coordinated action between state Islamic religious authorities and the police.

Zulkifli said that, in certain cases, enforcement action was taken by state religious authorities in accordance with their respective jurisdictions and existing legal provisions.

He said Jakim also worked closely with state religious authorities to monitor the situation and ensure that the matter was addressed appropriately, while respecting ongoing legal proceedings.

In this regard, he encouraged the public to come forward with information or raise any questions concerning the matter with the state religious authorities or JAKIM to enable appropriate action to be taken. — Bernama
