Kulim man charged with murder after allegedly killing wife in fit of jealousy

KULIM, Sept 21 — A former technician was charged in the Magistrate’s Court here today with murdering his wife at their home in Taman Tiram last week.

G. Vikneswaran, 43, nodded in understanding after the charge was read out before Magistrate Nur Hamizah Mat Shah, but no plea was recorded as the case falls under the jurisdiction of the High Court.

He was charged with murdering S. Sila, 39, at a house in Taman Tiram here between 6.30 pm and 9.04 pm on Sept 14.

The charge was framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which provides for the death penalty or imprisonment of between 30 and 40 years and at least 12 strokes of the cane if the death penalty is not imposed upon conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutor S. Preeyaa prosecuted, while Vikneswaran was unrepresented. The court fixed Dec 8 for mention.

The media previously reported that the woman died after allegedly being stabbed 13 times by her husband at their home here.

Kulim district police chief Supt Syamsul Sinring was reported as saying preliminary investigations found that jealousy was suspected to have been the motive, while the suspect later surrendered himself at the Lunas police station. — Bernama
