Could Aaron Rodgers Reunite With Garrett Wilson In A Blockbuster Pittsburgh Steelers Trade Before The Deadline?

Pittsburgh Steelers spent nearly five years hunting for a center, and the search ended quietly. Zach Frazier has not allowed a sack in 2026, and Ben Roethlisberger just placed him beside two franchise legends. The Pittsburgh Steelers are 6-2 with that kind of protection. Aaron Rodgers, though, throws to a thin receiver group. He is set to retire after this season, so patience is a luxury. One name from his past keeps surfacing: Garrett Wilson of the New York Jets. The asking price could decide whether this works at all.
Zach Frazier Gives The Pittsburgh Steelers An Anchor At Center
After Maurkice Pouncey retired following 2020, the Steelers burned through several options, including a third-round pick who flopped. Frazier, out of West Virginia, took over in 2024 and never gave the job back.
PFF now grades him as the best center in football. He has a 98.9% blocking efficiency rate across 2,638 snaps, with only two sacks allowed in his career.
Roethlisberger, who spent years watching this franchise's centers up close, did not hold back.
"He reminds me of Pouncey. He reminds me of the tough, the, 'I don't really need anything. I'm just gonna go out and do my job' … It's the Dawsons, the Pounceys. At some point, he needs to start getting his Pro Bowl nods… Then, that turns into the All-Pro nods. He's that guy," Roethlisberger said on his podcast.

General manager Omar Khan built this line from the inside out, and it shows. Mason McCormick and Troy Fautanu have settled in. First-round pick Max Iheanachor has given up five sacks, so the group is still learning.
Garrett Wilson Could Reunite With Aaron Rodgers On The Pittsburgh Steelers
Josh Downs of the Indianapolis Colts tops the Steelers' wish list at receiver. Nothing is guaranteed there, which is why Wilson has entered the picture.
Writer Adam Bittner sees the appeal and the obstacle.
"Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers was his signal caller for two of those productive seasons in New York, so there's pre-existing chemistry to potentially be mined. The Jets have him under contract through 2030, so there's no clear need to move him, even in the midst of an abysmal 2-6 start. The Steelers would probably have to present an offer Darren Mougey could not refuse to get something done. It's questionable whether that's worthwhile for the Steelers with Metcalf under contract and uncertainty at quarterback after Rodgers retires at the end of the year," Adam Bittner wrote.
Then there is the baggage. Reports from New York hinted that Rodgers and Wilson never fully clicked, and that Wilson played a part in the Jets moving on. Details are thin. Pittsburgh, having Rodgers in the building, probably knows the real story already.
Mougey holds the leverage here. A 2-6 team with a star signed for four more years has no reason to hurry.
