Tickets on sale from RM200 for F1 race in Sepang

Fans are racing to be part of the Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix action at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) as tickets go on sale today from RM200 for the three-day event.

The Oct 2-4 race weekend will mark Formula 1’s return to Malaysia after a nine-year absence, with the RM200 ticket allowing fans access to the G hillstand, an open-air grass viewing area without allocated seating.

Fans willing to pay more can choose viewing areas overlooking different parts of the 5.5km Sepang International Circuit.

Checks on the Bahrain GP website showed that the B and C hillstands cost RM809.60 each.

The B hillstand overlooks Turns 12 to 14, a series of fast, sweeping corners where drivers rapidly change direction at high speed.

The C hillstand offers views of Turns 9 to 11 and part of the back straight, giving spectators a mix of slower, more technical corners and the sight and sound of F1 cars accelerating towards top speed.

Tickets for the F grandstand are priced at RM1,291.40. The F grandstand overlooks Turns 7 and 8, where drivers brake, navigate two closely linked corners, and get back on the throttle as quickly as possible.

Tickets for the K1 grandstand, which faces the opening corners, are priced at RM1,386. The K1 grandstand is one of the more dramatic places to watch the race, particularly on the first lap, when the entire field arrives at Turn 1 and drivers jostle for position under heavy braking.

The most expensive ticket is the RM2,083.40 option for seating at the main grandstand, where spectators can watch the race’s start and finish, pit stops, and activity in the garages – as well as the podium celebrations.

Children aged three to six receive a 25% discount, except for the G hillstand, while those under three can enter for free but will not be allocated a seat.

Three-day tickets for non-Malaysians start at US$218.90 (about RM895) for the B and C hillstands and go up to US$566.05 (RM2,314) for the main grandstand. The G hillstand is not available for non-Malaysians.

F1 last month confirmed Malaysia as the replacement host of the F1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix, which was cancelled earlier this season due to geopolitical tensions in West Asia.

SIC hosted the Malaysian Grand Prix from 1999 to 2017, but it decided not to continue due to rising hosting costs and licensing fees.
