Manila logs 32 new flu-like cases; prompt consultation pushed

MANILA, Philippines—The City of Manila recorded 32 new influenza-like illness (ILI) cases on Monday, the highest number of new cases among the illnesses included in the city’s latest W.I.L.D. diseases report covering water-borne diseases, influenza, leptospirosis and dengue. 

The Manila Health Department (MHD) also logged 22 new dengue cases, 15 new leptospirosis cases and one new confirmed COVID-19 case on Sept. 21.

The latest figures were based on data extracted from the Electronic Disease Case Surveillance and Information System (EDCS-IS) as of 7 a.m. Monday.

With the latest additions, Manila’s ILI cases since Jan. 1 reached 1,788. Dengue cases climbed to 3,155, while leptospirosis cases totaled 1,440. Confirmed COVID-19 cases stood at 94.

No new cases of cholera, typhoid fever or severe acute respiratory infection (SARI) were recorded, leaving their year-to-date totals at four, 74 and 405, respectively.

Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso urged residents not to wait for their symptoms to worsen.

“[M]ga Batang Maynila, huwag nating hintayin na lumala ang sintomas. Kung may nararamdaman, magpakonsulta agad sa pinakamalapit na health facility,” said Domagoso in a Facebook post.

The MHD also reminded residents to take precautions against W.I.L.L.D. diseases during the rainy season.

It urged the public to keep their surroundings clean, avoid stagnant water, drink clean water and promptly seek consultation at the nearest health center if they develop or experience symptoms. /gsg
