PETALING JAYA, Oct 30 — Police are tracking down a foreign man suspected of throwing acid at his girlfriend in PJS 4 here on Tuesday.

Petaling Jaya district police chief Assistant Commissioner Shamsudin Mamat said the incident, believed to have involved the woman and her foreign boyfriend, occurred at about 10am, Berita Harian reported.

“I can confirm that a report was received and investigations are being conducted under Section 325 of the Penal Code.

“The victim and suspect were in a relationship, and the incident is suspected to have stemmed from a break-up,” he said in a statement today.

Shamsudin said police were still searching for the suspect, who fled immediately after the incident, while his background details remained under investigation.

The victim, a woman in her 20s who works at an eatery, suffered burns after being splashed with a liquid believed to be acid.

“She is currently receiving treatment at the University of Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) for her burn injuries.

“Further investigations are underway, including recording statements from witnesses to track down the suspect,” he said.
