Retired Donald works out for Rams for 2nd time

LOS ANGELES -- Aaron Donald worked out for the Los Angeles Rams on Saturday as he continues his process to determine whether he wants to come out of retirement.

Donald's "tryout" was listed Sunday on the NFL's transaction report. It was his second time working out for the team this training camp.

Coach Sean McVay said Donald's decision will come on "his timeline."

"What I don't want is to sit here and do is put a timeline on it, then something comes up where I have to push it back," McVay said after the Rams' preseason opener in Kansas City on Saturday night. "... So, if he puts himself in a position where he says yes or no, I think he has earned the right to have clarity on that. We are not at that point quite yet.

"I am hopeful that it will be sooner rather than later, but I also want to respect when he does feel that clarity will come, I think there is a chance we will be closer to that than not. But again, I don't want to say too much or put some sort of invisible deadline on something that doesn't exist in my mind for him."

Donald last appeared on the transaction report in early August after working out on a players' day off at Loyola Marymount University. That session was with defensive line coach Giff Smith, along with senior vice president of sports medicine and performance Reggie Scott and senior director of strength and conditioning Justin Lovett.

After that workout, McVay said the former All-Pro defensive tackle "looked outstanding."

Donald, who spent his entire 10-year career with the Rams before retiring in March 2024, first began to consider the option after Los Angeles traded for reigning Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett in early June.
