Asian Games 2026: Indian women’s badminton team beats Kazakhstan, sets up quarterfinal clash with Japan

Indian women’s badminton team registered a comfortable 3-0 win over Kazakhstan to set up an exciting quarterfinal clash with host Japan at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games 2026 on Sunday.
P. V. Sindhu, Unnati Hooda and Tanvi Sharma, all won their singles matches in straight games at the Ichinomiya City Municipal Gymnasium.
Double Olympic medallist Sindhu took 24 minutes to brush aside World No. 426 Kamila Smagulova 21-7, 21-9.
World No. 866 Alissa Kuleshova was no match for Indian youngster Unnati and succumbed to a 7-21, 10-21 defeat in 22 minutes.

World Junior Championships silver medallist Tanvi recorded a 21-5, 21-10 victory over World No. 1067 Diana Namenova in 19 minutes to seal the deal for India.
Japan, seeded second, received a bye in the round of 16. Its squad includes former world champions Akane Yamaguchi and Nozomi Okuhara.
Indian men’s team, last edition’s silver medallist, will be in action on Monday when it takes on Bangladesh in the round of 16.
