Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Brian Yuliarto urged universities to turn knowledge and research into solutions that benefit society, while strengthening scientific culture and building excellence in line with each institution's character.

In a statement here on Saturday, Yuliarto said universities should not only produce knowledge, but also develop impactful research and innovation that open opportunities for added value for the institutions.

"Knowledge finds its highest position when it is utilized, used in society," he said.

Yuliarto stressed that knowledge has important value when it can be utilized and applied to meet society's needs. Therefore, strengthening research needs to go hand in hand with efforts to encourage the use of research results and innovation.

He also highlighted the importance of making research and innovation part of universities' institutional development. Campuses need to build the ability to produce knowledge, develop innovation, and ensure both have real impact.

Yuliarto described an excellent campus as an institution capable of developing value from the knowledge it produces.

"I always tell university leaders, a good campus is a first-class campus, 'premier league'. A premier league campus is one that can generate money from research and innovation, from the knowledge it develops," he said.

In line with this, Yuliarto emphasized the importance of building research strength that can drive innovation and produce impact. This spirit is reflected in the principles of strong research, strong innovation, and strong impact.

He also reminded every university has a different character, capacity, and potential. Therefore, institutional transformation needs to start from understanding each one's strengths, not merely copying other universities' strategies.
