The Warning Say Rock Has Changed for Women But It’s Still a “Constant Battle” to Prove They Belong

Translate

The Warning have watched the rock landscape change for women over their 13 years as a band, but the Mexican trio say there is still plenty of work to be done.

Speaking with CNN en Español, sisters Daniela, Paulina, and Alejandra Villarreal reflected on entering a genre where women are not always afforded the same opportunities as men.

“We aren’t always given the same opportunities as women in this genre, and it’s a constant battle to have to prove that we have a place within music,” the band said. “It makes us very happy that, over these past 13 years, things have been changing little by little.”

The Warning added that their success has allowed them to demonstrate that “rock is a genre for women” while representing Mexican women internationally. “We have a voice and a message that can be shared with the whole world,” they said, adding that “the world wants to hear us” and is interested in what Mexican women have to say.

The trio also credited the women who came before them with helping create opportunities for their generation and expressed hope that more women will continue finding space on rock stages.

The comments arrive during a milestone period for The Warning, who recently announced a 2027 world tour and are preparing for their first-ever stadium headlining concert in Mexico City. They are also set to perform during the November 22nd NFL game between the San Francisco 49ers and Minnesota Vikings.
