Double tragedy: Man loses wife, then sister in road accidents

BATU PAHAT: A man who lost his wife in a road accident last year is now mourning his younger sister and brother-in-law, who were killed when a lorry carrying tar overturned onto their MPV in Jalan Yong Peng-Muar near Parit Yaani yesterday.
Tengku Syafarin Tengku Abdullah, 46, had lost his wife, Noor Faradhillah Mohd Yusuff, 42, in a road accident about a week before Aidilfitri last year.
His sister, Tengku Syafirana, 44, and her husband, Mohd Hardi Mohd Husin, 46, died in the crash yesterday, while their two children, an 8-year-old boy and an 11-year-old girl, were injured and are receiving treatment at the Sultanah Nora Ismail Hospital.

The father of four, from Felda Mengkawang, Ajil, Hulu Terengganu, said he accepted the latest tragedy as fate, although it was difficult to bear.
Recalling how he learnt of the accident involving his sister, Tengku Syafarin said he initially came across a video of the crash on TikTok but did not realise his family members were involved.
"I only found out after my youngest sibling in Terengganu called and asked me to check the messages in our family WhatsApp group.
"I was shocked and called my late sister's number, but her husband's younger sibling answered.
"When I asked, he confirmed that my sister and brother-in-law were involved. Once I received the confirmation, I immediately got my children ready and travelled from Merlimau to Batu Pahat.
"Our family members also set off from Terengganu after receiving the news. I later learnt that my sister and her husband were returning home after buying groceries.
"I did not know what to say. This is test I have to face after losing two loved ones in an accident," he said when met at the Forensic Department of Hospital Sultanah Nora Ismail last night.
Tengku Syafarin appeared composed while waiting for the post-mortem examinations to be completed.
However, he broke down when he was allowed to view his sister and brother-in-law for the last time after their bodies had been shrouded.
He said his sister had recently moved from Kulai to her husband's hometown in Kampung Parit Maimun, Parit Sulong.
Batu Pahat district police chief Assistant Commissioner Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani said the MPV was travelling from Yong Peng towards Parit Sulong when the crash occurred.
He said the lorry, which was travelling in the opposite direction, was believed to have veered into the MPV's path after one of its tyres burst, crushing the vehicle.
