UnitedHealth Group (UNH) is set to report third-quarter results before the market opens on Tuesday, October 13, with investors focused on whether the health insurer can restore top-line growth as it pursues margin improvements.

Revenue is expected to decline 1.5% year over year to $111.49B, even as earnings per share are forecast to rise 41.8% to $4.14 per share.

The results could offer fresh insight into the company's earnings trajectory, with the outlook and management commentary likely to be key factors in the market's reaction.

Analyst estimates have moved higher over the past three months, with EPS receiving 21 upward revisions and one downward revision. Revenue estimates have seen 14 upward revisions and three downward revisions.

UnitedHealth has beaten consensus EPS estimates 75% of the time over the past two years and topped revenue estimates 63% of the time. Investors will be looking for results that meet or exceed expectations, as well as forward guidance that supports confidence in the company's recovery.

Seeking Alpha analyst Justin Miller rates UnitedHealth a conditional Buy, citing potential upside if management raises its 2026 guidance and confirms durable margin improvements during the Q3 earnings call.

Miller said UNH’s profitability is surging despite flat revenue and shrinking membership, as management deliberately exited unprofitable business lines, driving significant margin expansion.

Trading at 16x 2027 EPS, the stock remains below its five-year average valuation, with the market not yet pricing in a durable turnaround or a potential re-rating to historical multiples.

However, potential 2027 Star Ratings downgrades and a lack of top-line growth remain key risks that could cap further margin-driven upside and limit multiple expansion.

UnitedHealth (UNH) shares have advanced nearly 15% year to date, adding to the focus on whether the company can sustain its earnings recovery and deliver further upside.
