KOTA BARU: Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) is providing welfare and psychological support to graduating student Husna Syakira Abd Halim, who lost her parents in a road crash.

The crash occurred on the East-West Highway in Gerik, Perak, early yesterday afternoon.

In a statement, UMK expressed its condolences and deep sorrow over the tragedy involving the Faculty of Entrepreneurship and Business student.

Husna Syakira is graduating with a Bachelor of Entrepreneurship (Logistics and Distribution Trade) with Honours. She was due to receive her degree at UMK's 16th Convocation Ceremony tomorrow.

Following the news, the university, through the Student Wellbeing Division of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor's Office (Student Affairs and Alumni), sent a team of officials, Student Representative Council representatives and a psychological officer to Gerik Hospital.

UMK said it would continue to support the family, including with welfare assistance and other arrangements, to ensure everything ran smoothly.

Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir, in a Facebook post today, extended his condolences to Husna Syakira and her family over the loss of her parents.

He said the Ministry of Higher Education and UMK would support the family, including by handling the funeral arrangements.
