Pas candidates for Melaka polls pass Majlis Syura Ulama screening

Translate

KOTA BARU: All Pas candidates identified for the upcoming Melaka election have passed the screening process conducted by the Majlis Syura Ulama.

Pas secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said the party has identified the names, although negotiations over seat allocations are still ongoing.

Takiyuddin said the screening process focused on potential candidates rather than the seats they might contest, as final allocations had yet to be determined.

"We have already identified the candidates. I can confirm that the candidates we have identified for the seats allocated to us have been approved by the Majlis Syura Ulama," he said when met.

The Kota Baru member of parliament said Pas had begun screening potential candidates even before the seats to be contested were finalised.

Takiyuddin, however, did not elaborate on the identities of the candidates or the constituencies they might contest.

Barisan Nasional will contest 21 of the state's 28 seats, while Perikatan Nasional (PN) will contest the remaining seven under an electoral cooperation agreement.

In the 2021 state election, BN won 21 seats to secure a two-thirds majority, while Pakatan Harapan won five and PN two.

Nomination is on Oct 31, followed by early voting on Nov 10 and polling on Nov 14.
