Extremist Israeli settlers attack NBC News team interviewing Palestinian in West Bank

According to NBC, three members of its team had been interviewing 51-year-old Aida Ahmed Abdullah, who claimed that she and her family had been driven out of their home by settlers.

NBC News shared footage showing a team of reporters being attacked by Israeli settlers in the West Bank while trying to interview a Palestinian woman and her family on Saturday.

During the interview, a car pulled up with several masked men inside, one of whom leaned out of the window. Video of the incident shared by NBC showed the masked men attacking another car with a stick, as well as the person filming the video.

NBC News international correspondent Matt Bradley reported that he had been hit twice in the arm, saying that the attackers "jumped out, beat us, then jumped back in the car."

Other people who were reportedly wounded during the attack were an NBC cameraman, NBC producer Lawahez Jabari, and Abdullah herself, who was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

According to Jabari, the attackers also had a gun, but did not use it.

“We were in the middle of a Palestinian area next to Palestinian houses," camera operator Khaldoon Eid said. "We didn’t expect that - that they would come to attack."

Israel Press Council calls for more security for media teams

In response to the attack, the Israel Press Council called for security forces to ensure the safety of journalists and other media team members in the West Bank and across all of Israel.

In their press release, the council demanded that Israel locate the perpetrators of the attack and put them on trial.

"Harming journalists is a direct violation of the public's right to know, and therefore any attempt to terrorize coverage teams with violence must be met with zero tolerance and punished to the fullest extent of the law," the council stated.
