NAKHON RATCHASIMA — 18 October 2026, A passenger bus travelling from Nakhon Phanom to Bangkok veered off Mittraphap Road in Nakhon Ratchasima, killing the driver and injuring 40 passengers, one of them seriously.

The accident was reported at 00:18 near the Prathai intersection in Thephalai subdistrict, Khong district. The white air-conditioned bus, registered in Nakhon Ratchasima, was carrying 41 passengers, including Thai and foreign nationals, from Nakhon Phanom and Sakon Nakhon to Bangkok.

The 55-year-old driver, identified as Prasert Nilwiset, died at the scene. A female passenger sustained serious injuries, while 39 others suffered minor injuries, according to initial reports.

Rescue teams from Ruen Chit and Hook 31 mobilised cutting equipment, lighting and life-saving tools to reach those trapped inside the bus. Rescuers also performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on an injured passenger before victims were taken to nearby hospitals. Difficult conditions at the scene hampered rescue efforts.

Survivors told authorities that the bus appeared to sway from side to side before veering off the road. Passengers scrambled to escape through side windows.
