Vietnam and Poland established a strategic partnership on Oct. 26, setting a US$6 billion two-way trade target for 2030 and agreeing to deepen defense and security ties.

Prime Minister Le Minh Hung and his Polish counterpart Donald Tusk announced the outcome of their talks at a press conference. The two sides adopted a joint statement establishing the partnership and an action plan to strengthen ties for 2026-2030, the Vietnam News Agency reported.

They pledged close coordination on implementing the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) effectively as they work toward the $6 billion target, up from $3.95 billion in 2025.

The leaders also agreed to make greater use of the ASEAN-EU strategic partnership to help strengthen each country's strategic autonomy, secure supply chains, ensure energy and food security, and respond to climate change.

The two sides agreed that Poland would serve as a gateway for Vietnamese goods into Central and Eastern European markets. They will also work to make Vietnam a key gateway, destination and platform for Polish and other EU businesses seeking to reach the ASEAN market.

The prime ministers agreed to promote cooperation in energy transition, smart agriculture, digital transformation, space technology and pharmaceuticals, tying it to technology transfer and sustainable development.

Cooperation will also cover strategic infrastructure projects in railways, shipbuilding and transport, as well as the green transition and the environment.

PM Hung said the two sides agreed to further deepen defense and security cooperation and to pursue substantive cooperation in fighting transnational and high-tech crime, cybersecurity and non-traditional security.

They also agreed to make science and technology, innovation and digital transformation a new pillar of the strategic partnership. They will strengthen the Vietnam-Poland joint committee on science and technology cooperation to identify priority programs and projects with concrete results.

Vietnam and Poland will also step up cooperation in training, scientific research and technology transfer among their universities, research institutes and businesses.

The leaders agreed to increase scholarships and strengthen cooperation in cultural industries, film and performing arts, the restoration of historical relics, and sports, including exchanges between the two countries' Olympic committees.
