Afternoon thunderstorms possible in southern Gauteng on Monday

Translate

Parts of southern Gauteng could experience afternoon showers and thundershowers on Monday, 26 October, while warm to hot conditions continue across the province.

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) forecasts partly cloudy skies across Gauteng, with isolated showers and thundershowers expected in the south during the afternoon.

However, not all areas will receive rain, and some places could remain dry throughout the day.

What to expect in other provinces

While Gauteng could experience afternoon thundershowers, several other provinces are also expecting rain.

Mpumalanga: Isolated showers and thundershowers could develop over the eastern and southern Highveld.

The province will experience partly cloudy and warm conditions, while temperatures in the Lowveld will climb to hot or very hot levels.

Limpopo: Fine skies and hot to very hot temperatures will dominate the province.

North West: Partly cloudy, windy and hot conditions will continue, with isolated showers and thundershowers in some areas.

Free State: The province will experience partly cloudy, windy and warm to hot weather.

Isolated showers and thundershowers are expected, becoming scattered in the extreme east and along the Lesotho border.

Northern Cape: Partly cloudy, windy and hot conditions will affect much of the province, while the extreme south will remain warm.

Isolated afternoon showers and thundershowers could develop in the east.

Western Cape: Cloudy skies will bring isolated rain and showers to the south and adjacent eastern interior, where conditions will range from cool to warm.

Other areas will experience fine and warm weather, with partly cloudy skies along the west.

Eastern Cape: The western half will experience cloudy and cool conditions, with isolated rain and showers along the coast and adjacent interior. Isolated thunderstorms could develop over the interior and northern areas.

The eastern half will remain cloudy and cool to cold in places, with scattered showers and thunderstorms.

KwaZulu-Natal: Morning fog could develop over the interior before partly cloudy and cool to warm conditions take over. Northern areas will become hot in places, while scattered showers and thundershowers could affect the province.

What should residents keep in mind during thunderstorms?

Residents planning outdoor activities should check their local forecasts, particularly in areas expecting afternoon showers and thunderstorms.

Motorists should also take care on wet roads, as rainfall could reduce visibility and make driving conditions slippery.

SAWS encourages the public to follow its latest forecasts and weather warnings as conditions change.
