Haze continues to blanket Bohol; air quality becomes ‘acutely unhealthy’
TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol — Haze continued to blanket parts of Bohol on Wednesday as smoke from forest fires in Indonesia continued to affect the region, raising concerns over worsening air quality.
Residents observed thicker haze in several areas, with some wearing face masks while outdoors as a precaution against smoke and dust.
Among them was Catherine Selma, who has asthma.

“I do it to protect myself from smoke and dust,” Selma said.
The haze also continued to obscure views of some parts of the province, including Panglao Island and the mountains of Maribojoc, two of Bohol’s well-known landmarks.
As of 3 p.m. Wednesday, the Environmental Management Bureau Region VII (EMB-7) continued to closely monitor local ambient air quality to assess the presence, extent and potential health impacts of the reported haze across the region.
The Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 215, classified as “acutely unhealthy.”

Under this classification, people are advised to limit outdoor exertion. Those with heart or respiratory diseases, including asthma, are advised to stay indoors and rest as much as possible.
The public was also advised to postpone unnecessary trips and remain cautious when going outdoors.

Depending on conditions, authorities may restrict motor vehicle use and curtail certain industrial activities to help reduce exposure and emissions.
