A Facebook post by Marathi actor Vikas Samudre threw the Mumbai Cyber Police into a state of alarm on Friday night, after a typographical slip in the message appeared to suggest he was contemplating suicide.

The error triggered an urgent search operation, which continued until the confusion was finally resolved.

Vikas Samudre clarifies the confusion

Samudre subsequently confirmed that he was fine, explaining that the post was actually tied to a theatre project he was working on.

The message had spread rapidly online, drawing concerned calls from the Mumbai Commissioner of Police as well as several other top officials.
