‘Let me meet my daughter once’: Muskan Rastogi’s request ahead of big verdict in blue drum murder case

Muskan Rastogi and her co-convict Sahil Shukla appeared before the court through video conferencing for sentencing

MEERUT: Muskan Rastogi, convicted of murdering her husband Saurabh Rajput in the infamous blue drum murder case, has been requesting to meet her seven-year-old daughter for the past three to four days, but the child has not yet been brought to the jail, police said on Wednesday.Muskan and her co-convict Sahil Shukla appeared before the district judge through video conferencing from jail on Wednesday, ahead of the pronouncement of their sentence. The court asked both whether they had anything to say before the sentence was pronounced.

Senior Jail Superintendent Viresh Raj Sharma said the judge questioned the convicts on various aspects of the case, including the forensic report, during a brief hearing.

Both presented their sides and will be called again before the sentence is pronounced, he said.“The first hearing took place, and both accused were presented separately. The judge questioned them about various matters, including the forensic report, but I do not wish to disclose the specific questions. The hearing was brief, both spoke to the judge and presented their sides,” Sharma said.He added that the jail authorities were prepared to produce them before the court whenever directed.

“Both are anxious and distressed,” he said.“They ate very little at dinner and breakfast and have not been sleeping properly. Muskan has been requesting for the past three to four days to meet her elder daughter, who is around seven years old, but the child has not been brought to meet her,” Sharma said.

On September 30, a Meerut court convicted Muskan and Sahil of conspiring to murder Rajput and concealing his body in an industrial drum filled with concrete and sand. The verdict came after 126 hearings and the recording of statements from 22 witnesses.
