If you own a jacket, you can wear this jewellery curator’s favourite micro-trend

Jewellery curator Emrys Cousins is the founder of Love Well Sourced. Ahead, she shares her style journey, coveted pieces and how she dresses down on the weekend.

I’d describe my style as inspired by a European sensibility. I love tailoring and classic foundations with an element of unpredictability, whether it’s a shoe or some fun jewellery.

The oldest thing in my wardrobe is a 1970s braided vest I purchased in Berlin 20 years ago. The most recent addition is a pair of black suede Chanel sandals. My favourite designers are Prada and Dries Van Noten – the bold use of prints, textures and unexpected proportions always feels fun and interesting.

On my first date with my husband, 15 years ago, I wore leather pants, a blazer and fringed boots. Now, I would wear an oversized suit and heels. On a plane, I wear relaxed jeans, a Maggie Marilyn cashmere sweater, Beare Park blazer and The Row zip boots. On the red carpet, I’d wear an Esse gown, big diamond earrings and Saint Laurent heels.

My favourite fashion eras are an amalgamation of the 1970s for summer dressing, the 1950s for tailoring, and the minimalist, pared-back look of the ’90s. For jewellery, it’s the 1900s for unique, one-off pieces; the way jewellery was made then was incredible.

Three essential items in my wardrobe are Slvrlake jeans, a well-cut blazer – I like Khaite, Beare Park and Wardrobe.NYC – and T-shirts from Bode and Flore Flore. A personal collection of jewellery is also essential. My go-to pieces are a French curb bracelet I wear with an antique gold engraved bracelet and a diamond bracelet. I also layer necklaces – long rope chains with talismans and pendants.

If I need inspiration now I look to Marta Oldrini and Leandra Medine Cohen.

The shoes I wear most are Chanel sandals and a pair of Miu Miu boat shoes I didn’t think I’d wear much because my style isn’t inherently preppy, but they add that “affected” element to the rest of my wardrobe.

When I was a child, my wardrobe had a consistent theme of denim overalls and shirts with embroidered Peter Pan collars, which is perhaps where my love of denim and very feminine blouses originated.

My first fashion moment was when I was 18 and spent two months in Paris and Europe. The unique and beautiful way women dress there was eye-opening and inspiring. If I need inspiration now I look to Marta Oldrini and Leandra Medine Cohen.

On my wish list you’ll find an old Céline bridge-lock clutch and a diamond rivière necklace necklace from the 1900s. One day, I would love to acquire a Tiffany & Co “Bird on a Rock” brooch.

A current trend I like is a jacket worn with the button closed at the top. And while it’s hard to call one of the most prolific categories of jewellery a trend, the resurgence of brooch-wearing is bringing me true delight.

On a typical working day my overall look is quite polished – tailored trousers with an oversized tee or slim-fit tank and a blazer. On Sundays, I lean into comfort in relaxed-fit jeans, one of my husband’s jumpers and flip-flops.
