Japan’s Miyu Yamashita continued her flawless golf to retain her Maybank Championships title at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club today.

Despite a charging field, Yamashita, the world No 4 women’s professional golfer, kept her cool in the hot weather to maintain her two-stroke overnight lead and finish ahead of China’s Yan Liu.

Yamashita, 25, posted a 4-under par 68 today for a total of 266, while Yan Liu also carded a 4-under par 68 for a total of 268.

Trailing one stroke behind were Thai amateur Marisa Tojai and France’s Pauline Roussin-Bouchard.

Yamashita, who was making only her third appearance in the Maybank Championships, won US$450,000 out of a total US$3 million purse.

She won the tournament last year in a three-way playoff.

The best Malaysian finisher in the 78-player field was Mirabel Ting, who was in a tie for 48th place.

Ting, who finished at 5-under par for the four-day championships, has secured her full LPGA card for 2027 after topping the Epson Tour with two victories this year.

LPGA player Natasha Oon finished tied for 56th, Diyana Durisic was in a tie for 66th, Kelly Tan (75th) and Genevieve Ling (76th).
