Coronation Street's Debbie to cause concern as she makes crucial mistake

Coronation Street's Debbie Webster is set to cause more concern as she makes a crucial mistake amid her dementia storyline. The character's condition has been worsening amid her diagnosis, with recent scenes seeing her get upset after giving Bethany Platt an '80s-style makeover while reliving her past.

In new scenes set to air next week, she creates worry with son Carl after making an error with her husband Ronnie.

The plot sees Carl struggle to find work, which spurs his mum on to suggest returning to the hotel. However, Ronnie doesn't like the idea and shuts it down.

Later on, when Carl reminds Debbie that she was meant to meet Ronnie for dinner, she calls her husband up and makes up the false excuse that she was delayed at work.

However, Carl listens to the conversation with concern.

"Carl is trying hard to rebuild his life," our Corrie insider said, "but Ronnie isn’t going to easily forget how he tried to steal Debbie’s money not that long ago!

"However, Carl soon realises that he should be more worried about his mum’s dementia. Will he voice his concerns about her worsening condition?"

Last year, actor Sue Devaney opened up about the plot, which will eventually lead to her exit, sharing her reaction to learning about it: "I knew that the story would eventually come to an end and my character would come to an end.

"There was a mixture of a lot of things. This was my first job when I was 16 and I left after a year and now it will be coming to an end again. But I also realised this was a really important story to tell and is a really fantastic opportunity to act."

Coronation Street airs on weeknights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
