PlayStation Plus Subscribers Officially Surprised With Bonus Free PS5 RPG

Being a PlayStation Plus subscriber varies in its success from one month to the other. Some months, subscribers feel as though the membership fee does not warrant the new games Sony adds to the service, whilst others will give them access to day one releases and epic RPGs that would otherwise cost over $60.

However, on top of day one releases and the monthly selection of new games to the library, Sony occasionally drops a banger right out of nowhere, and that is the case for one addition this September.

Fallout 76

Following the PlayStation 5 upgrade for Fallout 76 which dropped last week, PlayStation Plus Essential members will now be able to get their hands on it at no extra cost. Until now, the upgrade was only available for those who owned either the PlayStation 4 version of Fallout 76, or had a PS Plus Extra or Premium subscription.

However, as with every Sony offering, there is a slight catch. To be eligible for the PlayStation 5 upgrade, you would have needed to claim Fallout 76 in January 2023’s PS Plus monthly lineup. If you are anything like me, and you can hardly remember what you did yesterday, then there is a way to check if you claimed the Bethesda title. Simply head to your game library and search for the title. If you did claim it, you will be able to grab the PS5 port from Friday, September 25, 10 a.m. ET / 7 a.m. PT.

As with any upgraded port, you may be wondering if Fallout 76 is worth your time. So, to help you make up your mind, here is the full list of changes launching alongside the PlayStation 5 upgrade:

• Targeted 60 FPS across Xbox Series X|S, PS5 and PS5 Pro.
• Improved draw distances.
• Improved shadows.
• 4K resolution (on compatible displays) on Xbox Series X, Xbox One X, PS5 Pro.
• VRR (on compatible displays) on Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, PS5, PS5 Pro.
• PS5 and PS4 Pro will support 1440p while previous generation platforms will continue to support 1080p.

As you can see, all of these changes center around making Fallout 76 run a lot smoother and look even better, and with the multiplayer Fallout title now holding a dedicated fanbase after a less-than-smooth launch, there has never been a better time to head into the wastelands.

Thanks to regular quality-of-life updates, content drops, and events, Fallout 76 has redeemed itself in the eight years since it was first launched. Now with hours of content to enjoy, the world no longer feels empty and uninspired, and with the Bethesda title regularly working side-by-side with the hit Prime Video show, this is definitely a game that deserves a second chance, and this brand-new PS5 port may just be the perfect opportunity.
