You're running out of time to watch Midwinter of the Spirit, the spooky 2015 miniseries starring Anna Maxwell Martin. The three-parter is leaving Netflix on 27 October, giving you just enough time for a pre-Halloween binge.

The series stars Ludwig's Maxwell Martin as recently widowed country vicar Merrily Watkins, one of the few women priests working as an exorcist in the UK. When a grizzly murder involving a satanist takes place, Watkins is called by the police to assist in the investigation.

Midwinter of the Spirit was based on the character created by novelist Phil Rickman, who has written 16 books in the Merrily Watkins series.

Writing a the time of its debut in 2015, The Guardian said of the series: "Subtle Midwinter of the Spirit is not, and it loses some genuine scariness because of it. But it’s still a lot of fun, just the thing to both cheer and chill as the nights close in."

On IMDB, the series has a 6.2 rating from viewers, who enjoyed the supernatural twist on the cosy drama.

One viewer wrote: "Highly recommend this series. The acting was superb especially by Anna Maxwell Martin and Nicholas Pinnock.

"The script was really well thought out. I was also really impressed with the twist at the end, I just didn't see it coming....really well done everyone."

Another added: "I'm often asked what someone should watch. Well, if you're like me... [and] you like a new world of wonder, a great story and being left with a 'Wow'-feeling, I recommend this 3-episode miniseries to binge all at once."

Meanwhile, another fan made a lofty comparison to the Exorcist films, writing: "This mini series is not as violent as the Exorcist franchise but it shares the same tense atmosphere inhabited by a creeping, scuttling, increasing intrusive, evil.

"An evil that leaves no place safe, not even the comfortably familiar haven, the family home."

Midwinter of the Spirit is available to watch on Netflix until 27 October. The series is also available to stream for free on ITVX.
