Tamil Nadu’s Solairaj Dharmaraj successfully defended his Asian Para Games long jump title with a new Asian record of 7.15m in the men’s T44/T62/T64 combined final at the Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium in Japan on Thursday.

Competing in the T64 classification, Dharmaraj produced his winning leap in the second round, improving on his previous Asian record of 7.08m set at the 2025 World Para Athletics Championships in New Delhi.

The Indian opened with 6.88m before clearing 7.15m on his second attempt. He then cleared 6.82m and 6.85m before fouling his final two attempts.

Dharmaraj topped the combined standings with 807 Raza points, ahead of Malaysia’s Eddy Bernard, who secured silver with 740 points after jumping 6.34m in the T44 classification.

Japan’s Yuma Tamaki took bronze with 726 points following a personal-best (PB) effort of 6.89m in the T64 classification.

The victory marked Dharmaraj’s second consecutive Asian Para Games gold medal, having previously won the men’s T64 long jump title at the Hangzhou edition, held in October 2023.

On that occasion, he secured gold with a final-round leap of 6.80m, which was then an Asian record.

Dharmaraj subsequently improved that mark to 7.08m at the 2025 World Para Athletics Championships, where he finished seventh despite setting a new continental record.

Earlier this year, he also won the combined T44/T64 long jump event at the World Para Athletics Grand Prix in New Delhi with an effort of 7.05m.
