Indonesia draws US$7 billion in portfolio inflows through October 2026

Translate

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia attracted about Rp126 trillion ($6.97 billion) in portfolio investment inflows from January through October 2026, driven by demand for government bonds and Bank Indonesia rupiah securities.

Finance Minister Suahasil Nazara told reporters at the presidential palace in Jakarta on Tuesday that the securities he reported to President Prabowo Subianto continued to attract investors.

By contrast, Indonesia's stock market has recorded net capital outflows since the beginning of the year amid various market developments.

"The inflows are positive, but we still want to see improvements in our stock market," Suahasil said.

The government hopes a stronger stock market will help attract capital, making equities, government bonds, and Bank Indonesia securities more appealing to investors.

However, Suahasil said foreign direct investment (FDI), which finances projects and business activities in Indonesia, was ultimately more important.

He also noted that yields on Indonesian government bonds were beginning to rise, partly due to external factors, including global oil prices that had briefly reached US$113 to US$114 per barrel.

Suahasil said the oil price developments required the government to remain vigilant in managing the state budget.
