Sci-Fi Horror Comedy ‘Flapjax’ Boards Blue Finch Films for Sales Ahead of Fantastic Fest Bow (EXCLUSIVE)

“Flapjax,” Rocko Zevenbergen’s sci-fi horror comedy, has landed a worldwide sales deal with Blue Finch Films ahead of its world premiere at Fantastic Fest next month.
The U.K. sales and distribution company will launch sales on the title at the newly formed industry market at the Toronto Film Festival.
Blue Finch Films picked up the project through Sitges FanPitch, the pitching arm of the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia that connects genre filmmakers still in development with potential backers. The platform draws filmmakers, producers, sales agents and financiers from across the industry each year, fostering opportunities for development financing, co-production and market exposure.
“Flapjax” centers on Arrow, a fast-food manager whose overzealous devotion to the job unwittingly advances an alien race’s scheme, as he unknowingly serves customers a deadly new item added to the menu: Flapjax.
Zevenbergen, whose debut feature “I Need You Dead!” first put him on the map, co-wrote the “Flapjax” screenplay with Estevan Muñoz. He also produced the film with Aerin Chaklai, George Jones, Jefferson Moneo, Patrick Hackett and Fabiola Caraza on behalf of Prowler Pictures, while Daniel Futa, Mike Chapman and Fatima Hayward served as executive producers.
“‘Flapjax’ has been in the works for over six years now. It is such a thrill to finally unleash our micro-epic ‘onto the menu,’ as it were. Audiences can expect a rollercoaster ride through cinematic styles; moments inspired by Ozu and Cronenberg blend in a style I believe is unique to our picture. I’m hopeful festival audiences will be swept away by our incredible cast, led by Gabriel Cagan, into the world of Hamudders, alien conspiracies, and …mommy issues!?” Zevenbergen said.
“Prowler Pictures is dedicated to making wild films with crazed maniacs. Rocko Z is our kinda guy. His work can freak you out and melt your heart. A rare talent – with rare hair,” added Moneo.
Fatima Hayward of Blue Finch Films called Zevenbergen a genuine new voice in genre filmmaking, saying his blend of body horror and campy Nickelodeon-style nostalgia has resulted in a gruesome yet heartfelt ode to cinema. “Fantastic Fest is the perfect first audience for this crazy ride,” Hayward said.
Blue Finch Films’ sales slate also includes Toronto Midnight Madness title “Kick On” and BBC Film and Screen Scotland-backed “Misson,” starring George MacKay.
