Coronation Street's Kit Green to shock Lisa with cancer news

Coronation Street's Kit Green fears for his future next week, as he finally shares his cancer diagnosis with his work colleague Lisa Connor-Swain.

Lisa is crushed by the shock revelation and vows to be there for her workmate, but is Kit's outlook as positive as he'd hoped?

"For a man who prefers keeping his emotions hidden, getting his head around a life-threatening illness is massively challenging for Kit," begins our Corrie insider.

"He's used to getting results by using his intellect, but he can't treat breast cancer like a case that can be easily closed. Now his family knows, it's time he told his employers – but Kit is worried about the impact this will have on his career…"

Kit is a closed book in the workplace at the best of times, but since he received the devastating news he has stage three breast cancer, he's been even harder to read.

Aggressive outbursts and other types of uncharacteristic behaviour have raised red flags with his co-workers, but Kit has avoided any interrogation into what's troubling him with his customary aloofness.

Since confiding in Bernie Winter-Alahan and the rest of the family, Kit has felt relieved he's no longer carrying this burden alone. However, he's still reluctant to explain to his superiors what's going on. Yet as he embarks on chemotherapy, Kit realises he can't hide this forever.

"Doctors explain to Kit there could be serious side effects from chemo," shares our source. "He's strongly advised to speak to his boss because he may not be fit to work for a while.

"This echoes Bernie's plea that he confide in Lisa, but Kit is either too proud, or too scared, to take that next step and ask for more support. Sooner or later, he'll have to."

Oblivious to what Kit is going through, all Lisa knows is that her co-worker is shirking his responsibilities of late. When DC McLaughlin reveals that Kit has gone off sick for the third time in just a week, Lisa is livid – after the recent fake dental emergency, she's getting fed up with him not pulling his weight.

Putting his attitude down to his struggles with Sarah Platt's imprisonment, DS Connor-Swain has no idea of the true trauma he's facing. Reports of a shooting reach the understaffed station, so Lisa has to rush to the scene, seething she's having to work hard because of Kit's apparent apathy.

Unbeknown to her, conflicted Kit is trying to pluck up the courage to be honest and reveal his health issues – can he bring himself to do it?

"Kit genuinely feels guilty about letting everyone down," reasons our spy. "This is just such unknown territory for him.

"He gets to the station to find Lisa filing her report on the incident she was called to deal with – and she's not happy to see him! At last, Kit bites the bullet and tells her everything."

Stunned Lisa is instantly sympathetic, and reassures rattled Kit that the force will do everything they can to support him. Kit is grateful for her words, knowing he has a hard road ahead of him…
